(1907-1978)

Regarded as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, Charles Eames was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Awarded as the best American designer of his generation, Eames was heavily influenced by the work of his uncle, the great architect William S. Eames. During his academic career studying architecture at Washington University in St. Louis, better Eames began to put his ideas in motion while working as a laborer at the Laclede Steel Company in the city of his birth. Here, he inherited practical knowledge and experience of engineering, design and architecture, learning molding techniques that would later became famous. Both Charles Eames and his wife Ray are still heavily celebrated at international level, in particular for their work in the field of interior design. Both have worked on many projects, earning the award AIA Twenty-five years in 1977 and the prestigious Royal Gold Medal Award in 1979, a year after the death of Charles. Their work is still on display at the MoMA in New York, while in 1985 IDSA has credited the Eames as "the most influential designers of the 20th century."
